conditional sentence

conditional sentences (if clauses) are used in English to state a condition for the occurrence or existence of something.

if you mix sugar with water, the sugar will dissolve.

here, the sugar will dissolve on the condition that you mix it with water.

plants die if they don' t get sun and water.

notice that conditional sentences have two parts: the if - clause and the main clause. in the sentence: if it rains i shall stay at home ' if it rains' is the if- clause, and 'i shall stay at home' is the main clause.
type from conditional sentence:
Conditional Sentence Type 1
It is possible and also very likely that the condition will be fulfilled.
Form: if + simple present, will future
Example: 
  1. If I find her address, I’ll send her an invitation.
  2. I will come to your house if I have enough time.
  3. Father will be happy if I finish the work before lunch.
  4. Susi will wash the dishes if she feels welll.
  5. If he bears the news, he will be shocked.
  6. If she is not careful with the fire, she will burn her finger.
  7. If he doesn’t like the cake, he will not eat it.
  8. If you don’t water the plants, they will die.
  9. If I have enough time, I'll watch the football match.
  10. I’ll watch the film if I finish early.
Conditional Sentence Type 2
It is possible but very unlikely, that the condition will be fulfilled.
Form: if + simplen past, conditional I (= would + Infinitive)
Example:
  1.  If I found her address, I would send her an invitation.
  2. She would pass test, if she studied hard. 
  3. He would help the poor if he were a millionare. 
  4. He woulf support me, if I bad a match. 
  5. He would help your homework if be were able to.
  6. If I were you, I would study hard.
  7. I would take the offer if I were you.
  8. If I were a millionaire, I would buy a castle.
  9. If I had a lot of money, I would travel around the world.
  10. If I were rich, I would travel around the world.


Conditional Sentence Type 3
It is impossible that the condition will be fulfilled because it refers to the past.
Form: if + past perfect, conditional II (= would + have + Past Participle)
Example:  
  1. If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation.
  2. If he had been careful, he would not be have had that terrible accident.
  3. I would have passed the exam if I had worked hard .
  4. Her father would not have died, if he had gone to the doctor. 
  5.  If I'd known you were in hospital, I would have visited you.
  6. I would have bought you a present if I'd known it was your birthday.
  7. If they'd had a better goalkeeper they wouldn't have lost the game.
  8. If you had told me you were on the Internet, I'd have sent you an e-mail.
  9. If I had worked harder I would have passed the exam.
  10. If I'd known you were coming I'd have baked a cake.
